Dufferin in the Community

Building Sustainable Communities and Being Good Neighbours

At Dufferin Aggregates Acton Quarry we take great pride in our contributions to improve the quality of life for the members of our workforce, their families and the communities around our operations. Giving back to the community is a priority at Dufferin Aggregates. The following are just a few examples of how our company "walks the talk" here in Halton Hills.

Community Engagement

Earth Week Tree Planting Event

Every year during Earth Week, members of the Halton Hills community and the employees of Dufferin Aggregates join forces for annual tree plantings. In 2011, 300 people including Scouts Canada, and local community members participated by planting more than 4,000 trees from native species as part of the site's progressive rehabilitation efforts. Since 2001, Dufferin, together with the local community, has planted more than 50,000 white pine, eastern white cedar, white birch, poplar and white spruce trees on rehabilitated lands during Earth Week activities.

Open Houses

The Dufferin Aggregate Acton Quarry hosts an annual "Open House" for our community members. In 2010, approximately 400 neighbours, friends, family and elected officials gathered at the Quarry to learn more about how the quarry operates, about the rehabilitation efforts, have some good old fashion family fun! The Acton Quarry Open House also had a food drive, the proceeds of which were donated to The Acton Foodshare food bank.

Supporting Healthy and Vibrant Communities

Drum Sponsorship Program

With the fast pace of growth in Halton, Dufferin Aggregates has been conscious of the ongoing need for healthcare funding. Our company identified an innovative approach to raise funds for the Halton Healthcare Services Hospitals through their "Sponsor a Ready-mix Concrete Drum" program. As part of the program, Dufferin solicits donations from partners and suppliers in the industry, who then place their logo on the drum of Holcim's ready-mix concrete trucks. One hundred per cent of the proceeds go the Halton Healthcare Services Hospitals. To date, this highly successful program has raised $300,000 for the hospitals in Halton and $75,000 for hospitals in Georgetown.
